I got a chuckle reading the posting on my room mate and friends encounter with a cougar. I caution anyone sensationalizing this. This was not a cougar attack, this was a cougar sighting. If the cat was truly "starving" I would not have a dog any longer. I appreciate the excellent advice on how to appropriately behave if one is confronted by a mountain lion but I do not see the need to fear these animals. We don't have cougars near us, but the possiblility of running across a bear makes me cautious when out for a walk. I hate to put our dog on a leash when we're in the bush, but I admit I'm always a little nervous. But like Lori, if something did startle me, I'd likely take some snapshots too! But on the other hand, I would likely try to protect my dog too! Glad I don't have little kids anymore. I surely wouldn't go in the bush then! Oh, how scary!
