Reduced Vacation Time Hits Cottager Hard
September 24th, 2008I have to apologize. I’ve been very inconsistent with my blogging. The reason? I’ve started working full time in a new marketing position. While I love what I’m doing, it’s left very little time for anything else, that is after I spend some time with my children, walk the dog and organize our house.
My radical lifestyle change is also going to impact my vacation time. I’ve gone from 52 weeks of holidays a year, down to four weeks. In term of cottage time, I’m likely only going to be spending long weekends and maybe two weeks a year at the cabin, if I’m lucky.
I realize this is what most people have to contend with, but I’ve had it really good. Spending most of August at the cabin was a pretty great gig. Holiday time has now become a very precious commodity. No matter how you slice it, when I get time off there’s no place I’d rather be than behind the boat wakeboarding.

Holiday time has been a big issue in our family. Since my DH gets six weeks off a year, it would totally suck if I had to work. So, I’ve been extremely lucky to be mostly a SAHMom for the past oodles of years. Even luckier, when I did work, my boss gave me the same days off as my DH!! Now I’m back to being a SAHWife and LOVING it!

I am lucky in that I get (5) weeks vacation plus we are allowed to buy up to (2) additional weeks…a benefit I always take advantage. With the Auto industry in a slowdown I get to use the seven weeks as I choose. Every weekend is a long weekend from April 1st through the end of October and we spend them at the cottage.

Since I am a teacher I get the summer off. It has been great, I was able to be up here at the cottage when my kids were little and now up here with my dog. My husband owns his own business so he is able to take long weekends through the summer. I can’t believe the summer is almost over and I will be heading back home soon!
